It is spring and the Peacock Bass have been on fire! All of the Peacock Bass have been moving up from the deep and stacking up on the shoreline throughout all of the canal systems. The “Peas” have been staging up for their spawn and bedding. Not all Peas bed at the same time but some were found on beds while others were found under structure. A Miami native introduced me to some inexpensive jigs similar to a bucktail jig but made up of synthetic fibers. The jig would hold up for the day but the hooks would easy bend or roll and all of the fiber strands would fall out by the end of the day so I decided to tie my own out of some fly fishing materials laying around.

The cheaper jigs would get messed up pretty quickly and the hook would become dull.

I went to Bass Pro and Purchased a 10 pack of 1/8th oz jigs to make my own with better sharper hooks. The jigs turned out to be very successful and I bet they are good enough to land a few slot Snook and Tarpon.
