3 Ways To Catch More Trout In Moving Water

If you are anything like me you like to fish for trout and not only do you enjoy trout fishing, you enjoy trout fishing in moving water. Well, then this article is for you because in it I will reveal 3 ways to catch more trout when fishing in moving water. I should also point out that I am an ultra light fisherman and enjoy employing ultra light spinning gear when fishing for trout, so you won't find any information that pertains to the act of "fly fishing" here. It's not that I have anything against fly fishing, it's just not something that I choose to engage in, but I do however enjoy fishing for trout very much.

With that being said, let's get down to the business of teaching you how to catch more trout in moving water, what do you say? I have been employing all of the techniques for more than 20 years and know how effective they are for me. I'm confident that they will be just as effective for you.

  1. Drifting Spinners - Drifting spinners is much the same as drift fishing with a worm with the big difference being that a small inline spinner is the bait, rather than a worm. While the spinner is drifting with the current, do not reel the spinner in, but instead use your rod tip to "pop" the spinner and give it action. Then once the 'drift' is complete the spinner can be reeled in just as it normally would be.

  2. Drift Fishing Live Worms - Drift fishing live worms is my favorite of all of the ways to catch trout being outlined. This is probably because that it was the first technique that I was taught, more than twenty years ago, in relation to trout fishing. All the technique involves is letting a worm drift naturally with the current until an inquisitive trout bites your offering. Although the technique is extremely simple in theory, it does take some practice to get the hang of, but once masted is as effective a trout fishing technique as there is.

  3. Fishing a Mini Jig - Mini jigs, which are small twister tail or marabou jigs that weigh 1/8 of an ounce or less, are very effective when used as bait for trout. The mimic underwater various underwater creatures that trout regularly feast on, and will help virtually anyone catch more trout in moving water. Because of their small size, fishing them under a lightweight Styrofoam float is the best way to go, then "action" is added to the jig by simply moving or twitching the tip of your fishing rod.

Add these 3 simple ways to catch trout to your trout fishing arsenal and you will catch more trout anytime that you are fishing in moving water.
