richmond, Va. — Buying a fishing license in Virginia can cost you anywhere from $8 to $550 depending on which kind of license you need. But this weekend, June 5, 6 and 7, the fishing in Virginia is free.
“No fishing license of any kind will be required for rod and reel fishing in freshwater or saltwater, except in designated stocked trout waters, on these days,” the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries posted online. “If you’re fishing in designated stocked trout waters, both a freshwater and trout license will be required.”
All fishing regulations including size, season, catch limits, and gear restrictions, remain in effect.
“We have some of the best rivers, lakes and streams for fishing in the country and we would love it if the non-fishing public would give it a try. It’s fun and rewarding,” Bob Duncan, Executive Director of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, said. “Early June is a prime time to get out and fish, and a great way to spend some quality family time together.”
