Early Season Sale and Tips From Team Rhino Outdoors

Musky season is here once again! It is always exciting to get out chasing muskies after a long winter. This year the warm spring should contribute to a good opener for muskies in the northern zone. The muskies should be well past the spawn and ready to eat come opening day. Here are a few tips and things to consider if you are heading out for some early season muskies. Try to choose your lake wisely. I typically target darker water systems as well as shallower bodies of water. The reason for this is all about water temperature. These dark, shallow lakes warm faster so the muskies spawn sooner and begin biting earlier. Find the warmest water. Focus on shallow bays and flats. Usually spots on the north end of the lake will be a little warmer but not always depending on the wind. Any rivers or creeks flowing in can be great spots as well. I also target areas where panfish like to spawn as the muskies will certainly be nearby. A variety of presentations can work including small glide baits like 4" and 6" Phantoms, and twitch baits as well as small bucktails like Musky Mayhem SG Showgirls and Toothy's Tid Bits are usually top producers during early season. Good luck and tight lines, Steve Genson. If you'd like more information on the author please visit www.fishhunts.com
