TUKWILA, Wash. - The Seattle Sounders busy off-season continues with the team acquiring defender Chad Marshall from the Columbus Crew in exchange for a 2015 third-round pick and allocation money. The trade was announced on Thursday morning. Marshall has spent the past 10 seasons with Columbus and was a two-time MLS defender of the year in 2008 and 2009. He also earned MLS Best XI honours those seasons. He ranks 21s among active players with 253 MLS appearances and has 11 caps for the U.S. national team. Its the third trade Seattle has made in three days, having acquired goalkeeper Stefan Frei from Toronto and sending midfielder Mauro Rosales to Chivas USA for forward Tristan Bowen earlier this week. The Sixers are four losses away from matching the 1972-73 team for worst start in franchise history. That team from 40 years ago finished with the worst record in the history of the NBA. On Wednesday, Philly collected its 11th consecutive loss to begin the season with a 101-90 setback at home to the Boston Celtics. That setback came after an 0-4 road trip, low lighted by a 53-point loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Tony Wroten scored 21 points off the bench to lead the Sixers, who have fallen by double digits in eight of their 11 losses. Henry Sims added 14 points in the loss, Luc Mbah a Moute and Michael Carter- Williams scored 11 apiece and Nerlens Noel had 10. The Sixers won three of the four meetings between the Atlantic Division rivals last season and were in line to make a run at their first win before Boston pulled away in the second half. The Celtics outshot the Sixers 52.5 percent to 37.5 percent in the third and fourth quarters after the score was tied 46-46 at halftime. We didnt communicate as much on defense and they got some open shots, said Noel, who, with Carter-Williams, returned to the starting lineup on Wednesday. Rondo does a great job running that team. The Sixers play against the New York Knicks in Madisoon Square Garden Saturday, then play four in a row in Philly.dddddddddddd Portland, Brooklyn, Dallas and San Antonio come to town as the 76ers search for a win. Friday night represents game four of a six-game road trip for the Suns. It started poorly with a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, but Phoenix won the last two over the Celtics and Detroit Pistons. On Wednesday, Eric Bledsoes go-ahead layup with 28.7 seconds left lifted the Suns to an 88-86 win over the Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope knocked down a left corner 3-pointer to stake Detroit to an 86-85 edge, Bledsoe knifed through the lane and snuck his layup past Greg Monroe. Markieff Morris blocked a Brandon Jennings layup attempt with about five seconds to go and Caldwell-Popes top of the arc triple was off the mark. Bledsoe split a pair of foul shots with 1.3 ticks on the clock and Jennings heave at the horn was well short. They let me get the ball and make plays in the fourth quarter and thats what I do, Bledsoe said. Bledsoe finished with 18 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Suns. P.J. Tucker had 16 points and seven rebounds and Goran Dragic added 12 points and four helpers in the triumph. The Suns visit the Indiana Pacers and Toronto Raptors before heading home. The Suns have won three in a row against the Sixers after Philly took four straight. The Sixers are 3-2 in their last five as the host in this series. LENZERHEIDE, Switzerland – Bode Miller wants to continue racing next season at the age of 37, even if this campaign left him disappointed. A third-place run in a World Cup super-G on Thursday typified Millers season: Fast and crowd-pleasing, but errors cost him victory. "Im frustrated and worn out right now but I think I have more to do in the sport," Miller said. "I definitely am still competitive. If I can keep my body healthy then I think the plan is to race next year." Millers racing skills were clear when he became the oldest-ever Olympic Alpine medallist last month, taking bronze in super-G at Sochi. On a steep and technically demanding slope Thursday, no one was faster than Millers speed check of 101.9 kph (63.3 mph). Still, he came down 0.57 seconds behind surprise winner Alexis Pinturault, with another Frenchman, Thomas Mermillod Blondin, edging him by one-hundredth. "I had probably two and half seconds, three seconds, worth of mistakes, in that run," Miller insisted. "That is the way my season has been. I have had to deal with that." Miller took full responsibility for his race, and a World Cup season that has brought him four podium finishes but no addition to his 33 career victories. "It has been such a frustrating time of so many near-misses and so many really bad, stupid mistakes that I cant blame anyone but myself for," he said. That list includes his top priority races: The classic World Cup downhill at Kitzbuehel, Austria, in January and the Olympic downhill last month. Miller finished third and eighth, respectively, when the best of his skiing was good enough to win, and his practice runs left some racers awe-struck. Here on Wednesday, Millers final downhill performance this season followed the same pattern. He led at the final time split – 0.30 faster than eventual winner Matthias Mayer of Austria, the Olympic champion – yet a mistake near the end took him wide into rough snow which slowed him. "These errors arent little bobbles, they are like borderline catastrophic," Miller explained. "(Wednesday) I just got so broken down about halfway down the course I didnt even care anymore. I wanted to stop. I didnt even really tuck through the finish line." Even standing up straight, he still placed eighth just 0.62 back. "I really wanted to change that today just because I think thats not the way to race," Miller acknowledged. "I just wanted to really stay focused to push every hundredth out of it that I could, even though I knew I was going to be out of the course a few times." "I felt good about battling through it," said the veteran racer, who has started a total of 32 World Cup and Olympics events this season after sitting out a year to recover from knee surgery. One incentive for returning strong next season is to race at the Feb. 2-15 world championships in front of home fans at Vail-Beaver Creek, Colorado. Thats for next season, after the current campaign closes with a giant slalom on Saturday. "Right now," Miller said, "I feel like I dont want to see ski boots for a little while." But off the field, pieces have been falling into place for an MLS franchise still looking for a winning formula in its ninth season.Polish international defender Damien Perquis and veteran French midfielder Benoit Cheyrou both joined the club this week, adding skill and big-league experience from Europe in key positions. And a source confirmed Friday that Toronto is close to getting star playmaker Sebastian Giovinco earlier than expected. The 28-year-old Juventus forward is expected to arrive in time for the start of the season. Toronto announced the signing of Giovinco on Jan. 19 but said then that the five-foot-four Italian would come to MLS in July once his current contract expires.Giovinco, known as the Atomic Ant, has seen limited action with Juventus in recent days and his early arrival should be confirmed early next week.Having Giovinco for a full season will add to an already hefty payroll, but should not impact the salary cap since only a small amount of his pay as a designated player counts against the cap. More importantly, it will allow Toronto to immediately plug the Italian star into the lineup and start building around him.GM Tim Bezbatchenko was out of town Friday and head coach Greg Vanney said he could not confirm a date for Giovincos arrival.Obviously Im optimistic, said Vanney. Id love to be able to plug him into the team starting with the first game of the year.Toronto opens March 7 in Vancouver.Giovinco is expected to play in the hole behind newly acquired American international striker Jozy Altidore. The 33-year-old Cheyrou will slot in beside U.S. lynchpin Michael Bradley in central midfield while Perquis and Scottish veteran Steven Caldwell anchor the defence. The goal will be to find space for Giovinco to work his magic between the opposition midfield and backline.Toronto will look to Brazils Jackson, Canadian Jonathan Osorio, Daniel Lovitz and veteran Robbie Findley to patrol the flanks. There are younger optioons as well, like newly signed homegrown player Jay Chapman and Vanney even had teenage striker Jordan Hamilton seeing time on the wing Friday, but Bezbatchenko may well look to add another winger.dddddddddddd.The 30-year-old Perquis and Cheyrou are expected to join the team in Orlando, as are draft picks Micheal Ramos and Salvador Bernal. Brazilian winger Jackson remains at home, awaiting the birth of his child.Gilberto is also back in Brazil awaiting his fate. The Brazilian striker is the odd man out with Toronto, which is one over the limit of three designated players.Bradley and Altidore are with the U.S. national team and are not expected to join the team until Feb. 9 when the squad returns to Toronto for training. The team goes back to Florida on Feb. 16 and will be based out of Bradenton until its return March 1.Adding experience was a key goal for Toronto in the off-season. The feeling was the club had good young talent, but had to rely on some of it too much last season.Vanney, during his time at Bastia, played against Cheyrou in France and said he got word of the Frenchmans interest in coming to North America through Laurent Courtois, a mutual friend and former MLS player. Were very very happy that we managed to pull it off and get him, said Vanney. Hes an outstanding player whos won championships, with an immense amount of experience.Cheyrou is a left-foot midfielder who works hard on and off the ball, with a range of passing that is second to none, according to Vanney. He hits the 30-, 40-yard ball across the field like its a five-yard pass. Cheyrou will be especially important in July when Bradley is expected to be away with the U.S. team at the Gold Cup. Vanney made a point of including Collen Warner in his discussions about the midfield Friday, signalling that the five-year MLS veteran will also have a role to play.Well have an interesting midfield, no matter how it shapes up, said Vanney. We have some dangerous guys in a lot of places, he added. The team has the day off Saturday before boarding a plane Sunday to the Sunshine State.———Follow @NeilMDavidson on Twitter. Alejandro Falla 6-1, 6-0.

In a short time at the helm, Tim Leiweke has made a massive impact on Toronto FC and his upcoming departure as president and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment will likely lead to some uncertainty as to how the club will move forward. After seven years of failure at TFC, Leiweke started the job of dragging the club off its knees and giving it relevance again in the countrys biggest media market. He has made big progress, but the task is nowhere near finished, and the departure of Leiweke will raise questions about Torontos future ability to compete as one of the top two or three power brokers in Major League Soccer. In MLS, you dont necessarily need to spend mega bucks to bring success – look at last years two MLS Cup finalists, Sporting Kansas City and Real Salt Lake for example - but with Leiweke in charge the goal wasnt just to be good in MLS, it was to become a "super club." He made big, bold promises, and he certainly delivered. On a cold, January day Toronto FC made one of the biggest splashes in Major League Soccer history, introducing not one, but two Designated Players arriving in the league from Europe. The signings of Jermain Defoe from Tottenham Hotspur and Michael Bradley from Roma marked a day in the clubs history that can only be matched in importance by the day the franchise was launched. "A very simple saying we will steal from the Kennedys is appropriate today," Leiweke said when opening the press conference on that day back in January. "Some people see things as they are and say why. Others dream of what can be and they say why not. Today is why not. Why cant we be great?" It was a day that made a big impact within the city of Toronto, but also changed the landscape across Major League Soccer. Those deals set a new standard for MLS, but they also saved the club from obscurity. Toronto had to commit what Leiweke called "financial suicide" to make the signings, but it was the only option at the time. In Leiwekes own words, "the patient was dying." The club was on "life support." You cant put a price on saving a club. Since bringing David Beckham to LA Galaxy from Real Madrid in 2007, Leiweke shown he has the ability to operate superbly in the global football environment. That ability is something Toronto FC lacked in the past, and will need to ensure they establish post-Leiweke if they are to compete on the biggest stage. Without Leiweke there is no Defoe in Toronto. Without Leiweke there probably wouldnt be the signing of Michael Bradley either. It was his contacts, negotiating skills and sales charm that made those moves a possibility. Having him in charge of TFC opened doors. He also managed to convince the board of directors to splash out enormous sums of money to make those deals a reality. Leiwekes arrival in Toronto was a big win for the MLS team because of his soccer background. He had already achieved a lot within the sports and entertainment business, but he also had a track record in MLS. His interest in the team and the league meant he invested a lot of time into fixing the club. While others in that role may give more time and energy to the Maple Leafs and Raptors, Leiweke was just as invested in getting things right at Toronto FC. He fired TFCs vastly experienced president and general manager Kevin Payne and appointed rookie GM Tim Bezbatchenko from the league office. He stuck with head coach Ryan Nelsen. Its still too early to say whether those moves will prove to be a success, but at this stage the club is on course for its first ever playoff appearance. So as Leiweke exits, it will be intriguing to see how big the impact will be on Toronto FC. Will they still choose to go after the big names with the "anything is possible," approach? Or will they be much more reserved in their ambitions? Either way, Leiweke has laid a foundation and there is still much building to be done. Custom Oakland Raiders Jerseys . have to overcome adversity

Marian Hossa is as close to a living legend as the Chicago Blackhawks have in their dressing room. Younger teammates are eager to call him special and revere him as a role model. It means Im older, Hossa said. Im just glad I can still play.Hossa can still play, and his consistency at both ends of the ice is a piece of what makes the Blackhawks perennial Stanley Cup contenders. Hes 35 now and this season passed the 1,100-game mark, but on a team led by Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, Hossa keeps things together as one of the NHLs best defensive forwards. He just flies on the backcheck. Theres a lot of guys that skate a lot faster going forward than they do coming back to their own end, and hes not that way, Kane said. Hes so good at stripping the puck. Hes also good in these one-on-one battles where more often than not youre going to see him coming away with the puck.He doesnt seem to get any older, either. He seems to get better and better each year. This is Hossas 16th full NHL season and he remains a key cog for the Blackhawks, who have won the Cup twice in the past five years and visit the Washington Capitals on Thursday in the Winter Classic. Hossa is averaging 0.65 points a game, the lowest since his rookie year with the Ottawa Senators, but his two-way game is responsible for preventing more than a few goals against.Teammates past and present marvel at what Hossa can do in the defensive zone and without the puck.Hes got that powerful stride that gets him back in the play easily, said former Blackhawks forward Jeremy Morin, whos now with the Columbus Blue Jackets. And he can take the puck off your stick with ease. Hes so strong on the stick and its always in the right position. He can steal pucks with the best in the league, for sure. That, Blackhawks winger Brandon Saad said, is how Hossa turns defence into offence. In 1,127 games, Hossa has 472 goals and 547 assists.Hossa is 76th on the all-time points list, ahead of Hockey Hall of Famers Pat LaFontaine, Lanny McDonald and Maurice Richard. Hes 52nd in goals, ahead of LaFontaine, Doug Gilmour and Pavel Bure, and third among active players. His career numbers are similar to former Senators teammate Daniel Alfredsson, who retired earlier this month after putting up 426 goals and 682 assists in 1,178 games. But Hossa may be one of the most underrated players in the NHL now and as a result is considered a borderline Hall of Famer at best.Maybe I would have more numbers but maybe some other teams wouldnt want me, Hossa said. Theres an advantage and disadvantage with that. Obviously Im happy how the outcome played out.Hossa has two Stanley Cup rings and appeared in the final two other times. A five-time all-star, the Slovak winger with four Olympic appearances has a case, even if its not easy to quantify.I know (from) being around him and still dominating like he does, I think its his 17th year, hes always been a great player, Saad said. Im not sure exactly the reason, but theres so many little things the guy does, its incredible.Hossa still has six seasons left on his contract at a cap hit of US$5.275 million, so he likely has plenty of time before the Hall of Fame question even comes up. Judging from his assessment of 1,000 career points that he has been lucky, Hossa probably isnt all that worried about it.Truth be told, Hossa has been fortunate to avoid injuries throughout most of his career. The fewest games he played in a full season was 57 in 2009-10.Hossa gets some practices off because of his age and experience, but that doesnt seem to detract from his play. Coach Joel Quenneville calls him a great pro and a player who reinforces what the staff wants out of the team.Defensively and offensively hes got a great thought process, Quenneville said. Game in, game out, you use him in all situations. Hes a very useful player. Before joining Chicago, Hossa was more than just a useful player for the Senators, Atlanta Thrashers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings. Despite all that, its possible hes still under-appreciated.But not by the Blackhawks. We definitely know how special of a player he is, whether he gets the recognition or not, Saad said. Its pretty surreal to see a guy like that still playing and still doing as well as hes doing.—Follow @SWhyno on Twitter. Lee Smith Jersey . The Impact were shutout twice by Sporting KC earlier this year — 4-0 on the road on Apr. 19, and 3-0 at home on May 10. The two teams meet for the third and final time this season at Saputo Stadium on Saturday. Catch the game on TSN as part of an MLS doubleheader starting at 7:30pm et/4:30pm pt. "Those were tough to digest," said striker Marco Di Vaio, who did not play in the 3-0 loss due to a hamstring injury. "We know that, unless we double our efforts, well lose again. We have to improve, and we have the capacity to do so. We need a full team effort to beat this team." At Sporting Park in April, the Impact (3-8-5) gave up three second-half goals, including two to KC striker Dom Dwyer, for their biggest defeat of the season. In May, Montreal was reduced to 10 men after just 17 minutes when midfielder Collen Warner, who has since been traded to Toronto FC, was shown a red card for handling the ball with his arm in the penalty box. Dwyer converted the ensuing spot kick, and added another goal in the second half. After that game, Impact President Joey Saputo took to Twitter to promise fans that changes were forthcoming. True to his word, Saputo shuffled the roster. In the last two months, the Impact traded Warner for midfielder Issey Nakajima-Farran, acquired Mamadou Danso from the Portland Timbers, signed Spanish midfielder Gorka Larrea, sent Jeb Brovsky to expansion side New York City FC, released the injured Nelson Rivas, and added Polish left back Krzysztof Krol. Most recently, after confirming Hernan Bernardello was headed to Cruz Azul in Mexico, Montreal signed Argentine attacking midfielder Ignacio Piatti as a designated player. "We made some good moves and brought in some good quality players," said manager Frank Klopas. "Its taken some time for them to jell, but were a different team. We have to continue to show that on the field." While Danso, Krol and Piatti have yet to see action for the Impact, the positive results have started trickling in. Since that 3-0 home loss to Kansas City in May, Klopas men are 4-3-3 in all competitions, and went undefeated in their final three Amway Canadian Championship games en route to the Voyageurs Cup. "The team is much better now," said Di Vaio, who has yet to score against Sporting KC in six career matches. "Were working as a team, were more confident. We hadnt been working together. Now, were more team-oriented." "We changed our personnel, and we changed our attitude," added captain Patrice Bernier. "Its up to us to prove that our two first games against them, we were a different team, and we werent at our best. Were at home, and we have to remember the lastt time we played against them.dddddddddddd" Since returning from the two-week World Cup break, the Impact have strung together three solid performances. The team registered a scoreless draw against the Whitecaps in Vancouver before beating the Houston Dynamo 3-0 at home. Last week, despite a solid defensive showing, Montreal conceded four minutes into stoppage time for the 1-0 loss against Chivas USA to remain winless on the road this season. Prior to the goal, the Impact had gone 315 successive minutes without conceding, the third longest shutout streak in Major league Soccer this year. The stingy defending, however, hasnt been enough to heave the Impact off the bottom of the MLS standings, where they have been for most of the year. With just 14 points from 16 games, Montreal has the leagues worst record. "Paradoxically, considering the start of the season weve had, were not that far from a playoff spot," said defender Hassoun Camara, whose team is just six points off fifth place in the Eastern Conference. "It may not have been how we wanted to start the season, but now, even in losses like last weeks against Chivas, were really bringing it on the pitch. We have to overcome adversity." To keep second-place Kansas City (7-5-5) at bay, the Impact will have to contain Dwyer, something they couldnt do in the first two encounters this season. The 23-year-old leads the team with 12 goals and a league-high 63 shots. "Hes going to work hard, hes going to make good runs in the box, hes going to fight for everything, and hes going to close down," said Klopas. "Box defending has to be good, obviously. Hes a guy that you have to be aware of for 90 minutes, because the one moment you lose focus and concentration, he can hurt you. "He has a very god mentality right now and hes playing with a lot of confidence." Like the Impact, Kansas City has only conceded once in its last three MLS games. But clean sheets may be more difficult to come by for Sporting in the near future. The team will be without goalkeeper Eric Kronberg for eight weeks after he fractured a bone in his left hand during training on Wednesday. Kronberg, whos played all 17 games for Sporting KC this season, leads the league with seven clean sheets. Backup keeper Andy Gruenebaum will likely get the start against Montreal on Saturday. Notes: On Tuesday, Klopas announced the Impact were still interested in acquiring Canadian international Olivier Occean from Kaiserslautern in Germany. … Sporting have yet to lose when they score first (7-0-4). … Karl Ouimette will be suspended if he receives a yellow card on Saturday. … Centre back Matt Besler will likely make his first appearance for SKC since returning from the FIFA World Cup. … Kansas City has only lost once in its last six MLS matches. WINNIPEG – A Winnipeg soccer player has been suspended from the sport for 15 years and fined $250 over allegations that he punched and kicked a referee. The Manitoba Soccer Association ruling on Branko Dukic, who is 29, follows a Manitoba Major Soccer League match in late May. Witnesses say a player who was upset at being given a yellow card argued on the field and taunted the referee to give him a second yellow card. They say the official was about to pull out a second card when he was punched in the jaw and kicked twice as he lay unconscious on the ground. The referee suffered a concussion and an off-duty Winnipeg police officer involved in another game nearby came over to detain the player. Dukic, who has apologized to the referee, has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and will appear in court July 30. Cheap Nike Air Max 90 All Pink . New team co-owner Marc Lasry indicated Monday that it is down to either Dukes Jabari Parker or Kansas Andrew Wiggins when the Bucks make the second overall selection in the draft Thursday night. Foot surgery for centre prospect Joel Embiid last week seems to have knocked Wiggins teammate with the Jayhawks out of the Bucks plans. With new ownership taking over a franchise that had a league-worst 15-67 record, Milwaukee is looking for immediate help. "I think its hard to take Embiid," Lasry said Monday at a joint breakfast meeting of the regions Rotary Club and the Milwaukee Press Club. "I think hes a phenomenal individual, but with the injury and not knowing how severe or long it will take to recover, I think for us today were going to want somebody whos going to help us on Day One." New York investment firm executives Lasry and Wesley Edens bought the Bucks this spring for $550 million from former U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl. According to Lasry, Edens watched Wiggins work out recently. If they need a reference on Parker, the Bucks can just go across town to talk with new Marquette coach Steve Wojciechowski, who worked with Parker when he was a Blue Devils assistant. "A lot is going to be dependent on what Cleveland does," Lasry said. "But I would tell you right now its probbably either going to be .dddddddddddd.. one of the other." This will be a pivotal pick for a franchise in transition. Lasry envisions building a championship-contending team within five years. At the same time, the new ownership group could also be seeking public financing to help build a new arena to replace the BMO Harris Bradley Center, though its unclear yet how much funding they might seek. The new owners have estimated that it could take $350-$400 million for a new arena. Lasry and Edens have committed $100 million, and Kohl has committed another $100 million. Lasry said Monday he hoped to find other people to help come up with the difference and would welcome public support. New potential minority investors in the Bucks could also be announced by July 15. Lasry said he hoped to add local partners. Lasry spoke of building a foundation of young players over the next two or three seasons that would help attract free agents. Among the more promising current young Bucks are guards Brandon Knight (17.9 points) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (6.8 points), and power forward John Henson (11.1 points, 7.1 rebounds). "Nobodys coming to Milwaukee if the team does what it did last year," said Lasry, who added that the payroll would increase. Lasry also said that the team would soon announce the hiring of a chief financial officer, and would be hiring a team president. games with only a 2-1

NAPLES, Fla. – Defending champions Kenny Perry and Sean OHair shot an 8-under 64 in modified alternate-shot play Friday for a share of the first-round lead in the Franklin Templeton Shootout. The teams of Matt Kuchar-Harris English and Charles Howell III-Justin Leonard also shot 64 on the Ritz Carlton Resorts Tiburon course. The 24 teams will play better ball Saturday and finish with a scramble Sunday. After playing the front nine in 3 under, Perry and OHair birdied Nos. 13-16. "It was a fun day for me," said Perry, the Champions Tour player of the year and Charles Schwab Cup points champion. "When (OHair) poured it in from about 15 feet on the first hole I knew it was going to be a good day for us. We were never in any trouble. "We had a great chance to really go low today and better than 8 under, but thats OK. I mean, alternate shot is a tough format. To me its my favourite format. I love it more than any format of all the three. So, you know, you can lose it. If we get off to a crummy start its hard to catch up with best ball and scramble coming up." Kuchar and English birdied Nos. 12-14 and eagled No. 17. "Yeah, it was a lot of fun playing with Harris," Kuchar said. "I knew he was on some pretty good form and knew I had a good horse for a partner." English replaced the injured Brandt Snedeker in the field "This is a tournament that Ive always watched on TV growing up and it seemed like such a great format and such a good competition," English said. English hit a 6-iron shot from 192 yards to 6 feet to set up the eagle. "When you start hitting some good shots and start getting some momentum, you keep rolling and we did a good job of keeping that momentum going on the back nine and making a bunch of birdies and making eagle on 17," English said. Howell and Leonard birdied the final three holes on the front nine and added birdies at Nos. 10, 12, 13, 17 and 18. "Today we chose Justin to hit first and that was great for me because he drove it in the fairway every time and I could swing away at it." Howell said. Retief Goosen and Fredik Jacobson shot 67, and Jason Dufner and Dustin Johnson matched Chris DiMarco and Billy Horschel at 68. Tournament host Norman and Jonas Blixt had a 72. Or perhaps the 36-year-old goalkeeper and Italy captain was reflecting on this: He is only the third player in history to be part of five World Cup squads, along with Germany great Lothar Matthaus and former Mexico goalkeeper Antonio Carbajal.(SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Kings have not fared well on the road this season, but the defending Stanley Cup champions have an excellent opportunity to pick up a rare away win on Tuesday when they visit the lowly Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place. The Kings lost a 2-1 regulation decision Monday night in Calgary. The setback came at the start of a three-game swing and dropped Darryl Sutters club to 4-8-5 as the guest this season. It also was the fourth consecutive road loss for the Kings, who havent won away from the Staples Center since beating Ottawa on Dec. 11. The fact the L.A. is holding onto the last wild card spot in the Western Conference is due in large part to the teams 14-4-2 mark at home. However, the Flames were able to tie the Kings for the final postseason berth with Mondays close win at the Saddledome. Markus Granlund scored the game-winning goal in the first period as the Flames used an early offensive flurry to defeat the Kings. Calgary scored twice during a 62-second span in the first, with Granlunds goal coming just over a minute after Curtis Glencross made it a 1-0 game. Tyler Toffoli supplied the Kings lone marker in the final minute of regulation and Jonathan Quick made 13 saves in defeat. Usually we get a lot of shots from our defensemen, going into the third we had one, Sutter said. They scored two goals in a minute. Martin Jones is likely to give Quick a rest tonight. L.A.s young backup is 2-0 with a pair of shutouts in his career against the Oilers. The NHLs recent Christmas breaak did little to help the Oilers get back on track.dddddddddddd Edmonton lost its eighth straight game with a 5-1 setback to visiting Arizona last Tuesday before the hiatus then emerged from the break on Saturday only to lose 4-1 in Calgary. The current nine-game skid (0-7-2) isnt even the longest of the season for Edmonton, which was on the losing end in 11 straight contests from Nov. 11- Dec. 3. The basement dwellers in the overall NHL standings have lost 20 of their last 21 games with only a 2-1 home win over San Jose on Dec. 7 separating the two epic skids. It seems unlikely Edmonton will put an end to its current slide tonight, as the Kings have won seven straight and nine of the last 10 meetings in this series. The only encounter so far this season between the clubs was in L.A. on Oct. 14, when the Kings routed the Oilers by a 6-1 score. Edmonton also has lost three straight home games against the Kings, who are 10-0-2 in their last 12 trips to Rexall Place. The Oilers fell behind 3-0 to the Flames on Saturday before the game reached the midway point of the first period. Calgary notched the trio of goals in a span of just 1 minute, 40 seconds. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored Edmontons only goal 4:23 into the third period. We took a couple penalties. That killed everything we were building upon, Oilers interim head coach Todd Nelson said. Edmonton will get a chance for revenge on the Flames tomorrow night when the clubs meet again in Calgary. The Oilers are 5-12-2 as the home team this season. New Jersey on Sunday night

OTTAWA - FIFA secretary-general Jerome Valcke has rubbished a legal challenge over the use of artificial surfaces at next years Womens World Cup in Canada, saying anyone who says playing on turf is discriminatory is talking nonsense. The French executive took square aim at the rebel faction of players and their lawyers, who have been banging the drum for months over having to play their showcase tournament on artificial turf. The world governing body of soccer, which admittedly has had other fires to fight recently, had largely limited its turf response to articles on its website, including an Oct. 29 interview with a diplomatic Valcke. But on Friday, the secretary-general came out swinging. If anyone is saying that the use of the artificial pitch is a question of discrimination, its nonsense. Its completely crazy to say that, Valcke told a news conference on the eve of Saturdays tournament draw.It has nothing to do with discrimination. I cant imagine that no one would recognize what FIFA has done for the development of womens football over the last 15 years. We have asked all of our members associations to invest in womens football … We have created new competitions and we are working on a potential new competition at the club level (a womens Club World Cup).We are every day trying to develop womens football around the world.A group of elite female players has filed a legal challenge with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, saying making women play on artificial turf is discriminatory because men play their showcase tournament on natural grass. The issue has dominated headlines, taking away some of the shine of a 52-game tournament that organizers ambitiously hope will draw 1.5 million spectators from June 6 to July 5.Hampton Dellinger, lead lawyer for the women challenging the turf, responded to Valckes comments by saying that the legal team that prepared the human rights complaint was completely lucid. The facts we put in our legal complaint make out a very compelling case of sex discrimination, he said in an interview from the U.S.Victor Montagliani, president of the Canadian Soccer Association and the tournament organizing committee, said the focus on the pitch has been mildly annoying. If I said I wasnt a little bit (frustrated), sure Id probably be lying, he said. But my frustrations not very high. Because to be honest with you, the conduct (of those challenging the turf) has been nothing short of what I call a little bit ridiculous. I can respect peoples opinions, I respect peoples comments. But also being a Canadian, I respect the process. And so they chose a (legal) arena to go into. And its still in that arena and I have to respect that. But they need to respect that as well. Captain Christine Sinclair, the lone player expected at the draw, and her fellow Canadian players have stayed clear of the turf brouhaha.I understand what theyre standing up for, she said of the players behind the legal challenge. Its not really an issue for me. Im preparing to play in a World Cup and thats what my focus is on. Ill let other players and other teams worry about issues outside the actual games.Valcke had promised an open dialogue at the draw. But, despite the fact only Sinclair is expected Saturday, he rejected an offer to speak to the rebel players via conference call.Asked about that, Valcke said he would talk with players in person but not on the phone — and he would not talk to lawyers.I am ready to discuss with all the players, with all the technical teams, with all the coaches. But face to face. And thats what Im ready to do .. Im ready to travel to wherever I have to travel to do that.Dellinger welcomed those words, saying they mark a step forward in making the Womens World Cup truly world-class.But the truth ultimately will be on the pitch, he added, referring to the type of playing surface.Four of the first five questions at the news conference were on the turf issues. But the following five touched other topics.Valcke confirmed that goal-line technology will be used at the womens tournament in Canada. And the prize money will be raised by US$5 million to $15 million, with the winner earning $2 million. Those were two issues raised by the lawyers for the rebel players, eager to point the finger at other differences between the mens and womens world championships.Germany, as winner of the mens World Cup this summer, earned $35 million. Total prize money for the mens event was $476 million.Valcke noted that the mens tournament, which made $4.5 billion this summer, finances all of FIFAs 20 world tournaments. And that the womens event was a relative new one — starting in 1991 — compared to the mens championship, which began in 1930.In a statement that may set the Canadians mens team on edge, Valcke congratulated Canada as perhaps the only one of FIFAs 209 member associations that is spending more money on womens soccer than men.The CSA would, no doubt, respond that its budget for the men and women shifts depending on what tournaments are nearest on the landscape.Still, the Canadian men are currently ranked 122nd in the world and have only ever been to one World Cup, in 1986. This marks the Canadian womens sixth trip to the World Cup in seven attempts.Saturdays draw at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Que., comes six months before the tournament kickoff. It will slot the 24 teams into six groups headed by host Canada (ranked eighth in the world by FIFA) and seeds Brazil (No. 6), France (No. 4), Germany (No. 2), Japan (No. 3) and the United States (No. 1).Canada will be in Pool A, playing its first two round-robin games in Edmonton and the third in Montreal. The rest will be determined at the draw.More draw details were released Friday, giving Canadas John Herdman and the other 23 coaches expected to attend Saturdays gala a sense of what to expect. There are four pots, with six teams in each.A worst-case scenario could see Canada drawn with Sweden (No. 5) or England (No. 7), Asian runner-up Australia (No. 10) and African champion Nigeria (seen as far better than its No. 35 ranking would suggest).A more friendly landscape would see Canada with Switzerland (No. 18), Thailand (No. 30) and Ivory Coast (No. 64).Herdman suggested the group of death starts with the European teams awaiting in Pot 4No easy games. But there are some harder ones. Hopefully we avoid them, said Herdman with a laugh.—Follow @NeilMDavidson on Twitter Tramaine Brock Broncos Jersey . Lohse (12-7) allowed a run and four hits over six innings in making his first start since spraining his right ankle on Aug. 13. He beat the Padres for the fourth straight time. Eric Stults (6-14) was charged with four runs and nine hits in five innings as he lost his first game in August to snap his three-game winning streak. Ramriez and Gerardo Parra had three RBIs; Braun, Ramirez and Carlos Gomez each had three hits. Lohse skipped his last turn in the rotation after getting hurt against the Cubs. But he was efficient in striking out five as the Brewers stayed 1 1/2 games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. Ramirezs 14th home run came in the fifth inning off an 87 mph Stults fastball that extended Milwaukees edge to 4-1. The Brewers broke the game open with a three-run sixth en route to their fifth straight road win. Brauns 17th home run in the third inning gave the Brewers a 2-1 lead, when he hit it into the left-centre seats. Martin Maldonado added a run-scoring single for a 3-1 advantage. The Padres tied the game 1-1 in the second but the Brewers got off easy. Alexi Amarista sliced a ttriple down the left-field line to score Cameron Maybin after he singled.dddddddddddd But Amarista was retired when Stults squeeze bunt failed as Lohses toss to Maldonado beat Amarista. Will Venable then struck out to end the inning, stranding two runners. The Padres lost eight of their last 11 games. TRAINERS ROOM Padres: OF Carlos Quentin isnt going to play again the season, according to manager Bud Black. Quentin was limited to 50 games because of sore knees, with his most recent DL stint starting on July 27. … 2B Jedd Gyorko, who strained his left hamstring on Thursday, returned to action by grounding out as a pinch-hitter. … SS Everth Cabrera (strained left hamstring) has resumed baseball activities but is probably out another week. "Jimmy is a good, young talent with a lot of potential," Sporting manager Peter Vermes said in a statement. "It was a goal of ours to try to re-sign him at the end of this season as a Sporting Kansas City player as opposed tto being on loan.dddddddddddd Were excited to have been able to accomplish that goal." Medranda has signed a multi-year contract with the reigning MLS Cup champions and will be added to to the teams 2014 roster upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate. Nets on Saturday night.

WASHINGTON – Paul George forced Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel to leave him on the court. George took – and made – the key shots, to the tune of a career playoff-high 39 points. He grabbed rebounds, 12 in all. He guarded the Wizards most dangerous scorer. When there was a loose ball, it was George diving to the floor to collect it. In sum, the tireless George willed the up-and-down Pacers within one victory of a return trip to the Eastern Conference finals, playing every second of the final three quarters as Indiana erased a 19-point deficit to beat Washington 95-92 Sunday night. "I kept wanting to try to get him a rest, and he kept saying, No," Vogel said. "And usually Ill override that, but he kept making big shots, too." Roy Hibbert had 17 points and nine rebounds, continuing his recent surge after a poor-as-can-be, zero-point, zero-rebound showing in Game 1. He responded with 28 points in Game 2, then 14 in Game 3, before helping Indiana win its third consecutive game Sunday, when Hibbert said he got a motivational boost from what he called a heckling fan. "He woke me up," Hibbert said. "He said I was tired. He was saying a lot of obscenities. Im a God-fearing man, so Im not going to go ahead and say what he was saying." After dropping Game 1, the Pacers have won three in a row to go up 3-1 and can close out the best-of-seven series at home Tuesday night. Only eight teams in NBA history have blown that lead. "Weve got a chance to make something happen," said Washingtons Bradley Beal, who was hounded at the defensive end by George and worked hard to get his 20 points. Beal might be right, but Washington better figure out how to limit George, who averaged 14.5 points in Games 1 and 2, but ramped that up with 23 Friday. And he was not about to let Vogel put him on the sideline down the stretch Sunday. In all, George played 46 minutes, and he scored 28 points after halftime. "I already had it in my head that I was pretty much going to go the whole distance," George said. "There was a moment where I was pretty gassed, but that second wind kicked in." The Wizards were up 17 at halftime, then made it 57-38 on Nenes basket to open the third quarter. But Washington showed a propensity this season for blowing double-digit leads – the Wizards lost 11 games after being up by at least 10 points – and again fell apart. "We never panicked," Pacers forward David West said. Georges 3 with 5 1/2 minutes left made it 85-79, and another 30 seconds later made it 85-82, giving him seven from beyond the arc, matching a franchise post-season mark held by Reggie Miller and Chuck Person. George also helped the Pacers limit the Wizards to one field goal over the final 7 1/2 minutes. John Wall gave Washington its last lead at 91-90 with about 2 minutes to go. George pushed Indiana back in front with two foul shots, and the Pacers forced a shot-clock violation. Hibbert made a 12-foot turnaround hook shot with 1:02 remaining to put the Pacers up 94-91, and sprinted down the court, his arms spread, his smile wide. Left all alone, Wall passed up an open 3-pointer, instead sending the ball to Beal, who missed a 3 try with under 50 seconds left. "Thats what the play was for, and I made the right decision," Wall said. The Pacers are playing much more like the team that pushed the Miami Heat to seven games in last seasons conference finals, and the one that earned the No. 1 seeding by going 46-13 at the start of this season. Theyre looking less like the bunch that went 10-13 down the stretch this year, then needed seven games to sneak past Atlanta in the first round. "We go through ups and downs, and highs and lows," said Hibbert, who scored two points before halftime, 15 after. Whats clear is this: When Paul is at his best, the Pacers are, too. "Paul is Paul. You know that youre going to get 150 per cent every time hes on the court," Hill said. "He knows hes the go-to guy on this team." NOTES: Georges previous post-season career best was 30 points. … Wizards coach Randy Wittman likes to call his trio of not-yet-retired reserves – Andre Miller, 38; Al Harrington, 34; Drew Gooden, 32 – the "AARP group," but they helped produce a 32-2 bench scoring edge for the hosts. Rashaan Melvin Raiders Jersey . Howard hit a three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Philadelphia Phillies to a 6-3 win over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night. Nick Nelson Jersey . Mike Vecchione tied it at 2 with 4:01 left in the first, Saskatoon native Eli Lichtenwald gave the Dutchman the lead 57 seconds later, and Daniel Ciampini capped the spree with 2:57 to go. http://www.officialauthenticraidersstore.com/authentic-kolton-miller-jersey.html .C. – Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith has been ruled out for Sundays game against the Atlanta Falcons. Nick Nelson Raiders Jersey .C. Now hes squarely in the U.S. capital and helping the Washington Wizards playoff drive. John Wall scored 33 points, Gooden got 11 of his 21 in the final quarter and the Wizards overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit for a 101-94 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday night. Johnny Townsend Raiders Jersey . The 25-year-old native of Milford, Conn., has 18 points in 41 games this season. The five-foot-eight 166-pound centre also has 28 points (10-18) in 15 games with AHL Oklahoma City.VAL-DOR, Que. – Allison Ross will be the hometown favourite at the 2014 Scotties Tournament of Hearts next month in Montreal after winning her second consecutive Quebec provincial womens curling championships on Saturday. The 29-year-old from Port Colborne, Ont., who trains out of San Diego, will fight bantamweight champion (Rowdy) Ronda Rousey on July 5 in the co-main event of UFC 175 in Las Vegas. UFC president Dana White announced the matchup Friday night via Twitter. Davis responded via the same medium. "Somebody pinch me because I think Im still dreaming!! Lol. Christmas is coming July 5th in Vegas," she tweeted. Rousey (9-0) is the face of womens mixed martial arts and arguably the UFCs current biggest star. It will mark the 27-year-old Rouseys fourth title defence. She has already disposed of Liz (Girlrilla) Carmouche, Miesha (Cupcake) Tate and Sara McMann. Davis is looking to join a select Canadian group of UFC title-holders or challengers. Montreals Georges St-Pierre was the longtime UFC welterweight champion before vacating his title in December to take some time away from the sport. Carlos (The Ronin) Newton of Newmarket, Ont., held the welterweight title in 2001. And Montreals Patrick (The Predator) Cote lost his middleweight title shot against Anderson Silva at UFC 90 in October 2008. Silva won by third-round TKO when Cote waas unable to continue due to a knee injury.dddddddddddd Canadians Harold Howard and Dave Beneteau were runners-up in the UFC 3 and 5 tournaments, respectively. Davis (16-5) has won eight of her last nine fights including all three in the UFC. But she faces a step up in class in Rousey, an Olympic judo bronze medallist who is the only 135-pound womens champion the UFC has ever had. Rousey has won eight of her nine fights in the first round, with eight of the wins via armbar. A pro since 2007, Daviss last loss was via majority decision in a March 2012 rematch in Strikeforce with Victorias Sarah Kaufman, currently No. 5 in the womens rankings. Davis, who has black belts in both traditional and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, has already beaten UFC opponents Carmouche, Rosi (The Surgeon) Sexton, and Jessica (Evil) Eye to rise to No. 2 in the rankings. No. 1 contender Cat Zingano has been sidelined by knee surgery and subsequent complications. The five-foot-five Davis started kick-boxing with a friend, then made the move to jiu-jitsu at 18. She switched to MMA after watching someone else in her gym training. Chris Weidman defends his UFC middleweight title against Lyoto (The Dragon) Machida in the UFC 175 main event.
