LOS ANGELES – June was a month to savour for Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Yasiel Puig and one to forget for Philadelphia Phillies slumping first baseman Ryan Howard. Puig ended his sensational first month in the major leagues with his first four-hit game, Stephen Fife scattered four hits over seven scoreless innings and the Dodgers beat the Phillies 6-1 Sunday to take three of four in the series. "Puigs definitely brought an energy and a spark to us, and his skill level, I think, is a little more than anybody anticipated it would be," Fife said. "Ever since he first got here, Ive had a lot of friends and family ask me: Hey, whats it like? And I just say: Keep watching, because its going to be historic. And as its turned out, its been a pretty historic start." Puig finished June with 44 hits, surpassing the 42 by Pittsburghs Bob Elliott in September 1939 for the second-most in a players first full calendar month in the major leagues. Joe DiMaggio had 48 in May 1936. "Obviously, the league is going to start to make adjustments when they start figuring out what counts and what pitches he may struggle with or have less success with," Philadelphias Jimmy Rollins said. "And then hell have to readjust his game. But right now, hes done everything he needs to do." Puig also eclipsed the Los Angeles Dodgers record for most hits in a month by a rookie, set by Steve Sax in August 1982. The Cuban-born right fielder got his first major league triple in the fifth inning and scored on Adrian Gonzalezs double for a 4-0 lead. Puig singled his first two times up and stole second base both times. He scored the games first run in the fourth inning on a single by Hanley Ramirez. Matt Kemp and Jerry Hairston Jr. also had RBI singles that inning. The only reason Puig led off the fourth was because Fife was picked off first base by catcher Carlos Ruiz for the final out in the third. Puig also doubled in the seventh. "He appears to me to be a complete package of a top-tier ballplayer," Fife said. "And to see somebody do that in the big leagues for the four weeks hes been up now is very impressive. I think hes taken a lot of pressure off a lot of people in here, just because hes producing at such an unbelievable rate." A.J. Ellis had an RBI double among his three hits and threw out two baserunners trying to steal, helping lead the Dodgers to their eighth victory in nine games. He finished the month with a .436 average, 16 RBIs and seven home runs. Fife (3-2) had five strikeouts in his second straight win. The right-hander has a 2.21 ERA over in six starts since being inserted into the rotation on June 3. "It was a good mix of everything," Fife said. "I tried to keep the ball down in the zone and was mixing in the changeup and the curveball throughout the whole day. My fastball command kind of went erratic in the third, so I threw the changeup and that kind of got me back on line. Then things started cruising." Jose Dominguez, promoted from Triple-A on Saturday, pitched a perfect eighth inning in his big league debut. The righty struck out his first batter, Delmon Young, on a fastball that registered 101 mph on the Dodger Stadium speed gun. Howard, back in the lineup after sitting out the previous two games because of left-handed starters, was 0 for 4 with three strikeouts. He is hitless in his last 20 at-bats with 11 strikeouts. "Im not happy about it," the 2006 NL MVP said. "Obviously, you dont go out there and say: I want to go 0-for-this entire trip. Its a battle and a grind, and its a very frustrating game at times." Kyle Kendrick (7-5) gave up four runs and 10 hits in six innings. The right-hander was saved by his batting helmet in the sixth when a pitch glanced off the back of it as he tried to duck out of the way. Fife squatted on the front slope of the mound, showing concern for Kendrick before the Phillies pitcher went to first base. Pitching coach Rick Honeycutt came out to settle down Fife, who induced Michael Young to hit into a forceout and got Chase Utley to ground into an inning-ending double play. "He came up to bunt in the third inning and I sailed one over his head, which was completely unintentional. Then in the sixth, I actually hit him in the head," Fife said. "For me, there are rules in this game – and one of them is, never hit a pitcher. So I got a little rattled. My biggest worry is that he would leave the game with a concussion. I didnt really see the blow, but I heard the noise. I probably owe him more than an apology. Its not something I intend to do ever again." Rollins drove in Philadelphias run with a two-out RBI single in the ninth. NOTES: The Dodgers designated 10-year veteran RHP Matt Guerrier for assignment and promoted rookie RHP Chris Withrow from Triple-A Albuquerque. Guerrier was 2-3 with a 4.80 ERA in 34 relief appearances. Withrow made three appearances for the big club earlier this month before he was optioned to the minors. … Dodgers LF Carl Crawford, sidelined since June 2 because of a left hamstring strain, began a minor league rehab assignment Sunday with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga. Starting that game against Lancaster was LHP Ted Lilly, who hasnt pitched for Los Angeles since June 4 because of a neck sprain. Air Jordan Cheap Australia . " Buehrle is a perfect 5-0

A Flyers defenceman leads the charge, the Kings’ top line is rolling, Fantasy tips and more in Scott Cullen’s Statistically Speaking. HEROES Mark Streit – The 37-year-old Flyers defenceman had a goal and two assists in a 7-3 win over Tampa Bay. He has 18 points (1 G, 17 A) in the past 19 games and, based on with-or-without-you (WOWY) stats this year, won’t be any worse off while frequent partner Nicklas Grossmann is injured. Kings top line – Marian Gaborik, Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter opened the scoring against Toronto, 37 seconds into the game, then iced the game with an empty-netter with a minute remaining. Gaborik has 15 points (10 G, 5 A) in his past 12 games, Carter has 13 points (4 G, 9 A) in the past dozen games and Kopitar has 21 points (4 G, 17 A) in the past dozen games. ZEROES Evgeni Nabokov – Tampa Bay’s backup didn’t provide much of a break for starter Ben Bishop, allowing four goals on 13 shots against Philadelphia and getting pulled after 22:36. Booth and Clarkson – While the Leafs had to be happy with their overall matchup against the Kings, wingers David Booth and David Clarkson failed to register a shot attempt, while combining for nearly 28 minutes of ice time. LINEUP NEED TO KNOW Victor Hedman – Tampa Bay’s top defenceman suffered a lower-body injury against Philadelphia and will be day-to-day. With Radko Gudas also out, Nikita Nesterov likely moves into the lineup and Mark Barberio, who played 21:14 at Philadelphia, could handle a bigger role. Tyler Johnson – The Lightning pivot suffered a lower-body injury at Philadelphia. Tampa Bay is at least well-equipped to handle an absence down the middle of the ice, with Steven Stamkos, Valtteri Filppula, Brian Boyle and Cedric Paquette available. They’ve also recalled Vladislav Namestnikov from the AHL. Rob Zepp – The 33-year-old who made his NHL debut earlier this season, and played the past seven years in Germany, stopped 21 of 24 shots in a 7-3 win over Tampa Bay. Braydon Coburn – Suffered a lower-body (foot?) injury that is expected to keep him out four weeks. With Nicklas Grossmann already out, playing time is opening up on the Philadelphia blueline for frequent scratches Michael Del Zotto and Carlo Colaiacovo. Incidentally, before getting hurt, Coburn was having a nice game (9 shot attempts for, 0 against) in his 6:07 of even-strength ice time. Morgan Rielly – Played 20:18 at Los Angeles, in a 2-0 loss. While it was his lowest ice time in three games with the new coaching staff, it also marked the first time in Rielly’s career that he played at least 20 minutes in three consecutive games. SHORT SHIFTS Lightning D Anton Stralman recorded a pair of assists in a 7-3 loss to Philadelphia, giving him six assists in the past six games…Flyers C Claude Giroux had a couple of assists in the win, moving to a tie for second in the league with 48 points (13 G, 34 A) in 42 games…Flyers RW Jakub Voracek added a goal and an assist, and leads the league with 52 points (17 G, 35 A) in 43 games. Avalanche G Semyon Varlamov stopped 36 of 38 shots in a 2-1 loss to Washington. Capitals G Braden Holtby turned away 31 of 32 shots in a 2-1 win over Colorado. Holtby has a .932 save percentage since the beginning of December, second-best behind Carey Price among goaltenders with at least 500 minutes played…Kings G Martin Jones stopped all 19 shots he faced in a 2-0 win over Toronto. Jones has a 4-3-2 record this season, allowing a total of one goal in his four wins. FANTASY FOCUS It’s a busy night on the ice, so here are a half dozen players to consider plugging into your lineup: Justin Abdelkader – A plough horse who gets ice time with the thoroughbreds in Detroit, Abdelkader has eight points (4 G, 4 A) in the past eight games and, even better, is going up against the Sabres. Chris Kreider – It’s been an uneven start to the season for Kreider but, as the Rangers are rolling, he’s picking up too, with five points (3 G, 2 A) in the past five games. Mike Fisher – Was productive almost immediately upon returning to the Nashville lineup and has seven points (4 G, 3 A) in the past eight games. Nice secondary scoring if you can get it. Brett Ritchie – Ice time (by minutes) in his first six NHL games: 10, 12, 12, 14, 17, 19. That trend is heading in the right direction and Ritchie scored a goal with five shots on goal while skating with Jamie Benn last game. Sam Gagner – With Martin Hanzal out, more time available at centre in Arizona and Gagner has 10 points (4 G, 6 A) in the past nine games. David Pastrnak – Though the rookie has a modest three points (2 G, 1 A) in seven games, he’s put 20 shots on goal and, in that small sample, has generated more shots per minute than any player in the league. Among players with at least 75 minutes of 5-on-5 ice time: MOST 5-on-5 SHOT ATTEMPTS PER 60 MINUTES PLAYER TEAM POS. Buehrle lost for the first time in seven decisions on Saturday to St. Louis, but it was through no fault of his own, as he was again tremendous, surrendering one run and five hits in seven innings. However, he did walk five batters and fell to 10-2, despite lowering his ERA a tick to 2.04. The 35-year-old left-handers resurgence has been a big reason why the Blue Jays sit atop the American League East standings. "We go out there and win a few games, try to win a series, thats how we have to go from here on out," said Buehrle. "Not really a scoreboard watcher or look at what other teams are doing, just go out there and try to take care of yourself. Hopefully were at first place at the end of the year, but we have a long way to go." Buehrle is a perfect 5-0 with a stingy 1.47 ERA away from home this season. One of those wins came in Baltimore back on April 13, but hes 8-8 with a 3.31 ERA in 20 career starts against the Os. Toronto will be looking to get itself right on Thursday, as it enters this series on the heels of dropping four of five after a 7-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. Jose Bautista had two hits, drove in a run and scored a run for the Blue Jays, who had won 15 of 17 before this rough patch. Toronto, though, still holds a 4 1/2-game edge on the Orioles and Yankees in the division. "I thinkk weve cooled off pretty good, pretty much top to bottom in the lineup .dddddddddddd.. but thats the way it goes," manager John Gibbons said. "The key is you cant prolong the struggles. Youve got to put an end to them. The bats will heat up again, hopefully sooner than later." Baltimore will try to make up some ground behind young righty Kevin Gausman, who is coming off the best showing of his career. The 23-year-old former first round pick earned his first win as a starter on Saturday, as he held the Oakland Athletics to a run and four hits over seven innings to even his record at 1-1, while, lowering his ERA almost seven runs to 4.91. "If he pitches next time like he pitched last time, I view him as a starter," Showalter said. Baltimore comes into this series after taking two of three from the Boston Red Sox. In Wednesdays rubber match, Chris Davis hit a two-run homer to back seven scoreless innings from Wei-Yin Chen, as Baltimore rolled, 6-0. Chen (7-2) gave up four hits while striking out a season-high seven batters for the Orioles, who bounced back from a 1-0 loss on Tuesday. Adam Jones, Nick Hundley, Jonathan Schoop and Nick Markakis each knocked in a run. "I came out here early today and worked on a few things that have really be helpful for me in the past and was able to swing the bat the way I wanted to tonight so it was definitely a good night for me," Davis said. Baltimore has split six matchups with the Blue Jays this season. MOBILE, Ala. - Inbee Park is back defending her No. 1 ranking, instead of watching others try to take it away from her. Second-ranked Stacy Lewis couldnt take advantage of Parks absence last week at the Kingsmill Championship in Virginia, but theyll be competing head to head again at the Airbus LPGA Classic starting Thursday on The Crossings course at Magnolia Grove thats part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. She watched Adam Scott wrest the PGA Tours top ranking from Tiger Woods on Monday without competing that week. "It would be nice to get it the way Adam Scott did, but I want to win tournaments at the end of the day," Lewis said Wednesday. "Being No. 1 in the world is definitely a goal but you cant think about it all the time. "If its something Im thinking about trying to make a birdie putt, its just not going to happen, so I just have to keep doing what I know is right. Even if I do get to No. 1, the goals dont change. Its still, give myself a chance to win on Sunday and let everything else take care of itself." Lewis has a successful track record in Alabama, winning the states tournaments in Mobile and Prattville in 2012. She wasnt able to pass Park, who missed last weeks tournament while sick. Park has been No. 1 for more than a year. "I wasnt really feeling well for the last couple weeks I played … so the next week I probably took three or four days off trying to get healthier and get the bad things out of my system," the South Korean said. "The next week I try to practice a little bit more and work on my game because I didnt really have that big of a gap or a break when the season started, so I didnt really have time to work on my game as much as I would like to. "I feel like Im back in a healthy condition, thats the important thing." Park is winless in eight starts this year. Lewis has eight top-10 finishes and won the North Texas LPGA Shootout. She expects low scores from the contenders this week. "Its just the way the greens are set up," Lewis said. "Theyre set up to make birdies, theyre set up to kind of funnel some shots in and get them close. Its fun for the fans, its fun for us to play, and being a good ball striker is where you want to be." For Jennifer Johnson, the return to Mobile has rekindled memories of her first LPGA Tour win last May. She finished with back to back 7-under 65 rounds and set a tournament-record with a 21-under 267 total. Johnson birdied four of the final six holes for a one-stroke victory over Jessica Korda and Pornanong Phatlum. She said being the defending champion could bring "a little pressure." "Maybe just trying to shoot the same thing I did last year because Im always trying to do better than I did the year before," Johnson said. CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Michael Jordan has reached billionaire status. Forbes Magazine estimated Thursday that Jordans equity as owner of the NBAs Charlotte Hornets is $416 million and his net worth outside of the team to be $600 million. It reported Jordan now owns 89.5 per cent of the Hornets. Jordans spokeswoman Estee Portnoy confirmed to The Associated Press that Jordan purchased an additional stake in the Hornets in January of 2013, but wouldnt say how much. Portnoy had no comment on whether or not Jordan is a billionaire. A six-time NBA champion, Jordan earned fame and fortune on the basketball court, as well as through endorsements and movies. The 51-year-old Jordan became the majority owner of the Hornets (formerly the Bobcats) in 2010 when he bought out Bob Johnsons share of the team. Crisp, efficient and potent. After three quarters of bumbling around in Indianapolis, the second-year quarterback led New York to two touchdowns in the final four minutes Saturday night. The second came on a 4-yard TD pass to Corey Washington with 55 seconds left —to give the Giants an improbable 27-26 victory against the Indianapolis Colts. "It was definitely a strange game in that way, but it shows that we have some perseverance," Nassib said. "Well play until the games over." For three quarters, the Giants stumbled around. Two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning finished 1 of 7 for 6 yards and was fortunate to have an interception wiped out by a Colts penalty. Backup Curtis Painter, the one-time Indy starter, completed one pass during a first half that the Giants managed only 48 yards and wound up 6 of 15 for 64 yards and one TD. The defence allowed 177 yards in the first two quarters, struggling to force punts, and kickoff returner Quintin Demps even lost a fumble. "Whatever words you want to use to describe it, there was no production," coach Tom Coughlin said when asked about the offence. "Theres nothing to look at from a production standpoint and thats disappointing." Things looked so bleak that when Painter finally got the Giants (3-0) on the scoreboard with 10:16 left in the fourth quarter, on a 3-yard TD pass to Kellen Davis, the smattering of fans left at Lucas Oil Stadium thought it was more of a gimme than the start of a comeback. Sixteen seconds later, though, Spencer Adkins recovered a fumble in the Colts end zone to make it 26-14, and then Nassib started working his late-game magic. He led the Giants on a 92-yard drive, capped by Michael Coxs 2-yard TD run, and then found Washington in the back corner of the end zone. Washington has caught a TD pass in each of the Giants three preseason games, including the winning scores each of the past two weeks. "Hes proven that hes made those big plays before and he did it once again," Nassib said of Washington. The late rally, against Indys backups, ruined what had been a big night for Hakeem Nicks, who signed with Indianapoolis (0-2) as a free agent in March after helping the Giants win the Super Bowl in their last trip to Lucas Oil Stadium in February 2012.dddddddddddd. He showed his old team that he could still play. Nicks caught five passes for 53 yards, accounting for most of Andrew Lucks production on a night Reggie Wayne was again held out. Luck wound up 12 of 18 for 89 yards with one TD. All week Nicks held his emotions in check, telling reporters all the right things. On Saturday night, he looked as if he had all the right moves, too, with the exception of a couple of goodbye waves to his ex-teammates as he headed out of bounds. The second time he did it, the refs flagged him for unsportsmanlike conduct wiping out a 36-yard gain and getting a brief lecture from coach Chuck Pagano. "He knew what he did, what that discussion was going to be like," Pagano said. The penalty didnt stop Nicks or the Colts. On the next play, he caught an 8-yard pass for a first down, and opened the second quarter with a 17-yard catch that eventually led to Adam Vinatieris second field goal of the game, a 42-yarder that made it 13-0. Matt Hasselbeck replaced Luck on the next series and promptly threw a 14-yard TD pass to DaRick Rogers to make it 20-0 at halftime, and two field goals from Cody Parkey made it 26-0 early in the fourth — a lead that looked safe. Painters TD pass and Adkins fumble recovery gave the Giants a glimmer of hope and Nassib made it happen by overcoming two offensive penalties and converting two fourth-down chances by hooking up with Washington for the winner. "We challenged them at halftime," Coughlin said. "I wanted us to come out in the second half and see who loved football. It was primarily the end of the second group and then the third group that did it." Notes: Four New York players left the game with injuries: Cornerback Prince Amukamara (groin), offensive tackle Charles Brown (shoulder), defensive tackle Markus Kuhn (elbow) and safety Cooper Taylor (toe). Coughlin did not have a postgame update. … Manning said he is comfortable in the offence but that the Giants are still trying to understand all the nuances. … Pagano said the Colts did not sustain any significant injuries. if he fell down or kind of

Danny Manning grew up watching Wake Forest play games at the Greensboro Coliseum, memories that linger in his mind all these years later. He never thought one day hed coach the Demon Deacons. Manning, the former Kansas star who spent the past two seasons coaching Tulsa, was hired Friday as Wake Forests basketball coach. Hell be introduced at a news conference next week on campus in Winston-Salem, N.C., a short drive from where Manning grew up. "I spent a lot of my formative childhood years in North Carolina," Manning told The Associated Press on Friday at AT&T Stadium, the site of this weekends Final Four. "I spent the majority of my life in Kansas," Manning said, "but this was a chance to be a part of a university that I share the same values and history with." His hiring ends Wake Forests two-week search for a replacement for Jeff Bzdelik, who resigned under intense public pressure following four mostly unremarkable seasons. Manning, who was 38-29 with two post-season berths in two seasons at Tulsa, interviewed this week and toured the campus in Winston-Salem on Wednesday before taking the job two days later. His hiring is considered somewhat risky because of his lack of head coaching experience, but theres no question he brings instant name recognition to a program that dropped to near the bottom of the expanded Atlantic Coast Conference. "There have been very few players who have had as much success on the court as Danny," Wake Forest athletic director Ron Wellman said in a statement. "He has played for and worked under a number of legendary coaches and he has been successful in his coaching career. We fully expect that Dannys coaching career will reflect the excellence of his playing career." Manning attended Greensboro Page High School before his family moved to Lawrence, Kan., for his senior year, and when it was time to choose a college, he picked Kansas over North Carolina. After his "Danny and the Miracles" team won the national title in Kansas City, not far from the Jayhawks campus, Manning was drafted first overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in 1988. He made two All-Star teams during a career marred by injuries before joining coach Bill Selfs staff at Kansas in 2003. Responsible primarily for working with post players, Manning was promoted to assistant coach in 2006 and two years ago earned his first head coaching job at Tulsa. Self called Manning "one of the most accomplished, humble people youll ever meet." The 47-year-old Manning took the Golden Hurricane to the CBI in his first year and followed that by guiding them to the Conference USA tournament title and their first NCAA tournament berth since 2003. They earned a No. 13 seed and lost to UCLA in their tournament opener. Tulsa forward Rashad Smith said he found out about Mannings move through teammates and media reports, though he said the coach texted him shortly thereafter. Guard James Woodard said it was "kind of shocking. "You know in the back of your mind, the run we had this year, there would be a lot of opportunities out there," Woodard said. "Im happy for him." Wake Forest never came close to making the NCAA tournament under Bzdelik, who stepped down March 20. Bzdelik went 51-76 with a 17-51 record in ACC play, and won only two league road games. Eight players transferred out during his tenure, and the Demon Deacons have been one of the youngest programs in the country – with only one fourth-year senior in each of the past two years. Barring any more transfers, Manning will inherit a team with eight players who are either juniors or redshirt juniors – including promising big man Devin Thomas and tempo-setting guard Codi Miller-McIntyre. As details of Mannings hiring trickled across Twitter, Miller-McIntyre tweeted: "Finally its over! Time to get back to work." Manning called the Demon Deacons a "sleeping giant," one that he believes will be able to contend with Tobacco Road rivals Duke and North Carolina in the near future. "A few years back, they were ranked No. 1 in the country," Manning told AP. "Theyve had great players. Youre about Chris Paul, Tim Duncan, just to name a few, because theyve had quite a few. "Im looking forward to going there and being part of that great tradition." Wholesale Air Max 270 NZ .  He was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 5th. Then he won the game with his usual blistering slap shot. Chara and Patrice Bergeron scored third-period goals to lift the Bruins to a 3-2 comeback win over the New York Rangers on Friday. With just under 9 minutes left, Chara unloaded a low slap shot from straight away about 10 feet inside the blue line that beat Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist between his pads. After he fired his shot, Chara was knocked to the ice. When the puck went into the net, while still on his knees, he pumped his fists in the air in celebration. "I saw an opening. I put a puck on net as quick and as hard as I could," said the 6-foor-9 Chara, still in uniform standing at his locker. "It was a good job by everybody." In the second period, Chara squared off with the Rangers Brian Boyle, knocking him to the ice and bringing a loud roar from the sellout TD Garden crowd. It was Charas first fighting major of the season. "I feel its been a while since the last time weve had a fight like that," Boston goalie Tuukka Rask said. "It usually happens in the blink of an eye. It gives a team a boost and really wakes up a crowd, a crowd gets really loud. I think as a team – I cant say we woke up – but it definitely gave us an extra boost and we never looked back after that." Brad Marchand also scored for the Eastern Conference-leading Bruins, who improved to 9-2-2 in their last 13 games. Rick Nash and Ryan McDonagh scored for the Rangers, who completed a five-game road trip 3-2. Rask stopped 17 shots for Boston, which hasnt lost in regulation at home in its last 10 games (8-0-2). Lundqvist made 25 saves for the Rangers, who played their first game in Boston since the Bruins eliminated them in five games in the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs last spring. "I dont think we played the way we needed to in the second or the third," Rangers captain Ryan Callahan said. "They seemed to be all over us and they eventually get the tying goal and the winning goal there. Weve got to be better in the second and third. It wasnt good enough." Boston had tied it 2-2 on Bergerons goal early in the third period. His shot was stopped by Lundqvist, but caromed into the net off defenceman Dan Girardi, who was in front with the Bruins Loui Eriksson. "Its nice to get one of those," Bergeron said. "I havent got one in a while." Chara pushed Boston ahead laterr with his shot that Lundqvist said he misplayed.dddddddddddd "Bad read. For some reason, I was reading a high shot and then just made a bad move," Lundqvist said. "Instead of playing it the way I should, I read his stick, and I thought it was going high. I dont know if he fell down or kind of missed it, but it definitely fooled me a little bit. Tough one." The Bruins were called for too many men on the ice with 4 1/2 minutes left, but held the Rangers without any good scoring chances. With New York trailing 1-0 in the first period, Nash and McDonagh scored 1:22 apart. Nash, playing his sixth game after missing 17 with a concussion sustained on Oct. 8, tied it when he spun around near the right circle and slipped a wrister inside the left post. McDonagh moved the Rangers ahead when his rising shot from the high slot beat Rask inside the left post. Benoit Pouliot screened Rask on the shot. "He was right there," Rask said. The Bruins had jumped ahead 1-0 when Marchand one-timed Charas cross-ice pass under the crossbar from the bottom of the right circle for just his second goal in 11 games. Midway into a well-paced but scoreless second, Bostons Torey Krug nailed the left post with a wrist shot. The Bruins had a handful of other good scoring bids that were shot just wide or turned aside by Lundqvist. Both teams had excellent scoring chances in the games opening minutes. Bostons Chris Kelly redirected a shot that hit the post and Carl Soderberg fired one that sneaked between Lundqvists pads but trickled just wide. New Yorks Derick Brassard cut in alone for a decent bid that Rask stopped 6 minutes into the contest. Boston was coming off a 6-1 loss at Detroit on Wednesday, its first of three games in four days. "Those kinds of games do happen," Chara said. "Its good to bounce back and regroup from games like that." World Cup team but

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Ryan Miller was more concerned about overcoming jetlag than thinking about providing a memorable send-off in what could potentially have been one of the goalies final games for the Buffalo Sabres. A little over a day after returning to Buffalo from the Sochi Games, and with his future uncertain, Miller stopped 36 shots and even contributed to the offence with two assists in a 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night in the NHLs first game after its Olympic break. "I wasnt really getting to far ahead or thinking about that kind of stuff," Miller said when asked about his future. Before the game, general manager Tim Murray acknowledged hes shopping the goalie with the intention of dealing him before the leagues trade deadline on March 5. Miller is on the block because hes in the final year of his contract, and Murray is unsure whether the 33-year-old is prepared to re-sign with a team thats rebuilding through youth. "Im trying to take the approach to take things as they come right now and be positive and play hockey," Miller added. "Its a lot of fun to play and win. Im going to try to enjoy these kind of moments where you can help make a difference." Despite feeling "a little bit goofy" from jetlag, Miller was certainly the difference by stopping the first 20 shots he faced in a game in which Buffalo was outshot 38-18. "It just shows what kind of goaltender we have in Ryan Miller," interim coach Ted Nolan said. "I dont think we had too much reason to say we were the better team tonight outside of Ryan Miller stealing that game for us." Christian Ehrhoff scored twice, including the go-ahead goal with 44 seconds left. Tyler Ennis also scored for Buffalo, which snapped a four-game skid, and won for only the third time in its past 14 games (3-8-3). Both of Millers assists came on Ehrhoffs goals. That made him the NHLs first goalie to have that many since Vancouvers Cory Schneider had two in a 5-4 overtime loss to Tampa Bay on Dec. 11, 2010, according to STATS. Ehrhoffs decisive goal came after he circled the Hurricanes net, and then stopped and spun in the right circle, where he attempted to feed the puck through the crease to teammate Marcus Foligno. The puck instead glanced off the stick of Hurricanes defenceman Justin Faulk and floated in over goaltender Cam Ward. Eric Staal and Alexander Semin scored for the Hurricanes, who lost to Buffalo in regulation for the first time in seven meetings, dating to a 1-0 loss at Carolina on Nov. 18. 2011. The teams got an early start coming out of the NHLs two-week break. The game was originally scheduled to be played Jan. 9, but postponed after a blizzard hit Buffalo. Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller found little fault in his teams performance. "Miller was the first star, and theres your answer right there," Muller said. "That was a complete, solid game on our part for 60 minutes. We did everything we had to do." Everything, of course, except score more than Buffalo. Miller put on a show. Early into the second period, he got a piece of Faulks snap shot from the left circle, and then recovered in time to turn aside Manny Malhotras attempt to convert the rebound in front. Miller had Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner looking up to the rafters and shaking his head midway through the second period. That reaction came after Skinner got off a hard shot from the right circle on a partial break, only to have Miller snag it with his glove. "We had a lot of chances," said Staal, who beat Miller through the legs on a 2-on-1 break. "When its a close game, you have to be able to bury them. And tonight, Miller made a lot of good saves." Following the game, Miller spent time surrounded by fans at the penalty box, where he took part in a television interview. He then got a cheer from the few remaining fans inside the arena as he headed to the locker room about 10 minutes after the game ended. Whatever might happen over the next week, Miller has enjoyed his 12 years in Buffalo. "I love this area. The fans have always been great," he said. "If it happens that Im traded, Im preparing to play somewhere else. It all just comes to its going to be hockey." NOTES: Sabres LW Matt Moulson (upper body) returned to the Sabres lineup after missing four games before the break. Also back was Buffalo C Cody McCormick, who missed 24 games with an upper-body injury. … Buffalo also snapped an eight game home losing streak, during which it had gone 0-5-3. … As a result of the rescheduled game, the Hurricanes opened a five-game road trip, their longest of the season. factor in the teams

Baseball season is just under two weeks old… Are you tired yet? For a sport which can cite the speed of the game as one of its major detractors, the 2014 season has already seen developments come to light to call into question whether the game needs to be sped up. The advent of instant replay on select plays, allowing managers to challenge contentious calls, has added yet another stall tactic to the great summer spectacle. Naturally, two weeks in, a pattern has emerged. Many organizations have employed or utilized a “video coach” whose job it is to keep an eye on a monitor when close plays come about and to double-check whether the right call was made. In order to give managers better odds of winning challenges, a trend has now emerged where skippers saunter out to the umpire to discuss the call while awaiting a signal from the bench to decide whether or not the play is “challenge-worthy”. Sometimes it is not and the game proceeds. Sometimes it is and more time is spent actually reviewing the play in question. So, whats the solution? Well, according to a report from ESPNs Buster Olney earlier this week, one MLB executive believes seven-inning games would help get the games done in roughly two-and-a-half hours. But is that really the best way to speed up the game? Solutions have been pitched before, however. In 2007, the MLBs official rules were altered to reduce the maximum amount of time a pitcher was allowed between pitches without runners on base. Under these rules, a pitcher was allowed no more than 12 seconds between pitches (down from 20) with the bases empty. The penalty for exceeding that time limit is an extra ball added to the batters count. Still, games clock in regularly at north of three hours. So, is the seven-inning game a viable solution for Major League Baseball? Changes have been made in the past to alter the quality of the game both on- and off the field including the advent of the live-ball era, the lowering and raising of the pitchers mound and – most notably – the restructuring of the Leagues substance abuse policy in the wake of the “Steroid era”. Speaking of which: Wouldnt a switch to seven innings be a clever way to asterisk the records that Major League Baseball is hesitant to recognize? “Sure, Barry Bonds is the all-time home run king… but that was during the nine-inning era.” What do you say? Would you be in favour of just heading home at the seventh-inning stretch? As always, its Your! Call. Cheap Hydro Flask Online . Ware, the sentimental figure during the Cardinals title run last season, scored Friday night on the first touch of his official return since shattering his leg during last seasons NCAA tournament. The third-ranked Cardinals posted a school-record 19th straight win while welcoming back Ware in a 99-54 victory over Cornell. Ware, who played in an exhibition this season before sitting out Louisvilles first two games, entered with 14:06 left in the first half. He split defenders on a drive to cap a 20-point run that made it 22-2. "I was pretty upset at myself that I didnt dunk that one," Ware said. "I thought the big man would jump so I was looking for the contact. Im just glad that Im playing and just understanding myself again." Ware finished with five points and had two rebounds in 13 minutes. "Hes obviously not afraid to take it to people," Louisville coach Rick Pitino said. "He looked good out there." Wares first game action since his injury came in a Nov. 6 exhibition, 220 days after the lower bone in his right leg came through his skin after a spill in the NCAA tournament. Ware didnt play three days later against College of Charleston as Pitino said the 6-foot-2 sophomore was "still limping a bit" and planned to keep in him on the bench until he recovered. "I didnt feel it, but even my mom and my sisters who came to that practice were telling me that I was limping," said Ware, who also missed Tuesdays win against Hofstra. "At the time I was denying it completely like, Nah, Im fine, Im going to play, but Coach knew what he was doing." Ware showed his athleticism on a rebound he took all the way for a pretty left-handed finish to give Louisville a 39-11 lead with 6:24 remaining in the opening half. Wayne Blackshear led the Cardinals (3-0) with 20 points, hitting 4 of 5 3-pointers. Channe Behanan added 13 points and 12 rebounds.dddddddddddd Nolan Cressler scored 10 points for Cornell (0-4). The Cardinals broke the school record for consecutive wins set by the champion 1979-80 team. Louisville won 16 straight in taking its third title last season. This win marked the 1,700th victory in the programs 100th season. Louisville ranks 12th on the all-time win list. Cornell lost to a Top 10 for the second time in seven days, having fallen at Syracuse 82-60 after leading by 14 early in the game. "Youre going against the best teams in America, so you kind of get a barometer of where you may be as a program and as a group," Cornell coach Bill Courtney said. "Our team is so young that were still trying to figure ourselves out." Louisville forward Luke Hancock said the Big Reds fast start against the Orange was a factor in the teams preparation. "The fact that they played so well the first-half against Syracuse, it made us pretty nervous and made us on our toes," said Hancock, who finished with 12 points. A problem with the lights at the KFC Yum! Center caused a 15-minute delay prior to the start of the game. After that, it was all Louisville. Tied at 2, Louisville unleashed the latest of its patented "boom" scoring spurts less than 1 1/2 minutes into the game.
